Nike SB Dunk High Atlas Lost at Sea (2020)

In 2020, West Coast skate shop Atlas and Nike SB teamed up once again to work their magic on the Nike SB Dunk High. Dubbed “Lost at Sea,” the skate shoe draws attention to the “Great Spill of 1990,” where a cargo ship from Korea to the U.S. spilled over 61,000 pairs of Nike sneakers into the sea after a storm. Some of the sneakers washed up on the California coast, including pairs of the Air Flight 90. This collaboration draws inspiration from retro sneakers.

If a sneaker were ever to mimic a worn-in pair of Air Flight 90s, the Nike SB Dunk High Atlas does it very well. For starters, the embroidery on the tongue pays homage to the cross-training sneaker, displaying Atlas branding while mimicking the sneaker’s similar writing. Moving down to the upper, it’s completely covered in a muted sail and blue colorway that’s being worn down, adding to its worn-in motif. Lastly, the yellowed midsole finishes off the collaboration to complete the vintage look of the new collaboration. A ship key hangtag ensures that these pairs will find their way to safety if they suffer the same wet fate as the pairs that inspired them.
