Nike announces the return of the Wu-Tang Dunk High

Originally released in 1999, these iconic sneakers (a collaboration with the Wu-Tang Clan) feature the Dunk High’s original “Iowa” (aka “Goldenrod”) yellow/black colorway with the Wu-Tang logo emblazoned on the heel. It’s generally accepted that 36 pairs made it to the public, and that they were released exclusively at Training Camp, a sneaker boutique in New York City known for its notable clientele. However, close to 100 pairs were produced, with half of those going to the Wu-Tang Clan and the other half staying at Nike.

In the world of high-profile, high-priced sneakers that change hands time and time again, the Wu-Tang Dunk Highs are in that select group, as pairs have been listed for as much as $50,000. During the Dunk boom in the early 2020s, Travis Scott was able to get his hands on a pair and showed them off on social media, adding even more appeal to the younger generation and increasing demand for the Dunk.

On June 30, 2024, Nike Sportwear’s official Instagram account, in collaboration with Wu-Tang Clan’s official Instagram account, posted a short clip of the Wu-Tang Dunk covered in a swarm of bees. While no other context is provided, it’s clear that Nike and the rap collective are heavily hinting at a release.
